Gotta love boys. We have three of them. Three.
As in The Three Amigos, The Three Musketeers, The Three Wise Men, The Three Little Pigs, The Three Stooges. Good things come in three! Let me break it down even further for you; that’s one more than the number of hands I have. Two (hundred) more than the number of coffees I should have, 0.6 more than the (previous) average number of children in a family, three more boys than I thought I’d have (I pictured myself as a mother of girls) and a gazillion number of lost hours of sleep :-)
I wouldn’t change any of it for the world!
Today Mattheus turned two months! So hard to believe that time can fly by so fast.
Though I’ve been preparing for an official two month session in the background, this day kind of crept up on me so I set up a short impromptu mom and baby shot!
I am not unlike most new mothers in that the idea of being in the picture at this point can be daunting. Still not quite back to pre-baby body and bags under my eyes, oh and a few extra wrinkles! But the truth is, I don’t see this when I look at other new mothers, or even photos of me with my other two for that matter. Instead I see an inner strength and radiance that is far more precious and truly beautiful. I’ve always loved following up with the newborn session after a client’s maternity shoot, excited to meet their new arrival, but more than that, I just love to see the glow and tenderness that new mothers seem to possess! So here’s hoping the same is true for myself and in the end, will I ever look back and focus on the way I looked?? Short answer, a big fat NO!
Okay, so there may not be much of me in these shots LOL! However, this quick impromptu shot turned into a mini session that didn’t end up getting very far! This was my first attempt at self portraits and let me tell you, without a remote and only a ten second timer, it was a challenge! I was bound and determined to use my 50mm prime lens, so setting up the manual focal point took quite a bit of time as well as trial and error and I was still not entirely happy with the focus! Also sad to say I still cannot find my tripod and so a pile of books on a chair may not have been the most ideal! After about a hundred frames I decided to call it quits for the day, also to give Mattheus a well deserved break! Despite the set backs, I still had fun and I’ll definitely follow up with this session and be a little more prepared next time :-)
Happy two months, Mattheus!
Seeing a child’s joy and curiosity over the soft powdery white flakes and the crunch underfoot brings back our own childhood memories of catching snowflakes on the tongue, snowball fights and building snowmen! (Or in my case, it was a beautifully engineered igloo that my dad had us work on together!)
Memphis doesn’t get a lot of snow, however and even when it does snow it’s really more of a dusting! So you can imagine that even the mention of snow gets children buzzing! Snow day! Continue reading
As I prepared for our third child’s arrival, I never questioned if I’d love him as much as my other two. But, I did wonder with him being the third, if I’d ever have those overwhelmingly beautiful moments that I experienced with my first. Especially seeing as the novelty of pregnancy was long gone! (Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!) Continue reading
It’s taken a few weeks for me to put together some more photos to welcome our third boy but it turns out that little Mattheus didn’t read the manual on ‘Newborn Photography‘ and out of all the hours he sleeps, infront of the camera is not one of them :-) More cuddle time for me! Infact it has become quite the joke around our house; nothing and I mean nothing will wake him at times! Though as soon as I set up to photograph him he’ll promptly wake! Continue reading
This weekend we welcomed Mattheus into our family! His older brothers are delighted (though apparently 9 months is too long to wait!) Looking forward to taking more newborn photos in the next days but I’ll leave you with this one for now :-)
