Did you invest in a high end camera only to find that you’re stuck on automode; confused by the harsh flash light that pops up, yellow or green tinted images or blurry movement?

This post has been put together with the parent in mind, looking to take better pictures of their baby. With a focus on photographing your baby during their playtime, I’ll guide you through some tips on how to use your dslr and the standard kit lens (I promise my beloved prime lens will stay in the bag!)  Continue reading

Newborn Session

Welcome sweet baby Rumyana (Rumi) to this wonderful family! Including Mila, the dog who has been promoted to big sister ;-)

I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Kyle & Petya for a short while now. However,  being invited into their home to photograph such intimate moments in these early days was incredibly special to me. Thank you! xox

Admittedly I couldn’t help be a little distracted by the incredible array of artwork, books, records and open views of downtown Memphis!

Capturing The First Year {five months}

photographing-five-month-old

Nearing six months you’ll definitely not want to miss all that your infant is able to do right now. Showing off his new found skills and doing them repeatedly as you shoot away! Admittedly I have a million and one images taken on my phone over these five months of my three boys but once a month I plan a mini styled session with the baby to really home in on the changes and hope to capture him in his everyday environment with shots that are also wall-display worthy! Capturing The First Year {Four Months}

Chances are you’re in a pretty steady routine with your four month old and apart from perhaps a sneaky sleep regression, you’re feeling a little more human again as the parent! However, as we ease into our routine, I’ve realized it becomes more of a challenge to notice the subtle developments that take place from month to month and sometimes from day to day. Setting time aside to intentionally photograph these moments has become a way I can savor these changes and I look forward to looking over the first year of our little one’s life. Continue reading

Capturing The first Year {Three Months}

three-month-baby-portraits-header

Oh three months, where have you gone?!

What seems like over-night, my tiny nugget has doubled his weight and somehow it happened right in front of my eyes! Perhaps a little sad to say goodbye to any resemblance of a newborn, this is a stage that in fact I have been looking forward to after having enjoyed watching our older sons grow. By three months, so much of their personality shines through. Quirky smiles, gurgles and hands-in-mouth mark this milestone! Continue reading

Shooting In Manual {Low Light}

Shooting in low light is indeed a challenge, but it doesn’t mean you should avoid it completely! In fact, you can create some absolutely stunning images with a little bit of control over your settings. Continue reading

Shooting In Manual {Light, Bright & Airy}

Finally, you got your hands on that dslr after dreaming of being able to take professional looking photos of your own kids…and fast forward a couple of months, a year even, it is still set to auto-mode, packed away safely on a top shelf away from little one’s reach! Am I right?!

It turns out that anything than sticking to your dslr’s auto-mode is a little trickier to navigate than first thought and the pictures that were supposed to have that professional artsy flair are, well, a little blah! And let’s face it, the built-in flash seems to have a mind of it’s own :-)

Willing to give it another chance?  Continue reading

An Introduction To Shooting In Manual Mode

 ‘I have the exact same camera as you! Though my pictures never turn out that way. I don’t really know how to use any of the manual settings. What settings do you use?’

Sound familiar?  This is overwhelmingly the most common statement I have heard from clients, parents and friends all hoping for the same thing from a decent camera. More professional looking pictures. Shooting in auto mode seems safe, but this won’t consistently help you produce beautiful photos with an artistic flare, nor will you become a better photographer. But how do you transition to shooting in manual mode?An-Introduction-To-Shooting-In-Manual.png
